Duke has long been considered among the top providers of healthcare in the country. Now, we are embarking on a journey to fully embrace the many resources, benefits, and services we provide within our own community to become among the healthiest organizations, too.
The Duke Healthy Campus initiative will engage students, faculty, and staff across the Duke community to help each of us live healthier, improve our quality of life, and realize our full human potential.
Duke Healthy Campus will focus on five core areas:
- Food & Nutrition,
- Mental & Emotional Wellbeing,
- Physical Activity & Movement,
- Fulfillment & Purpose, and
- Environment & Culture.
You are at the center of this initiative, and we need your participation and engagement to make it successful. Too often we take our health and wellbeing for granted until we have to deal with some health issue that limits our ability to do normal activities. Then we realize how central our health and wellbeing are to everything we hope to achieve in our personal, academic, and professional lives.
As part of the Healthy Duke initiative, resources available to new mothers will grow. Duke is purchasing several freestanding lactation pods for use in its three hospitals to supplement the lactation rooms that Duke Human Resources maintains.
As part of our commitment to the Healthy Duke initiative and to creating a healthy living and working environment, Duke is adopting a new policy to become smoke-free on all property and grounds owned and leased by Duke University beginning July 1, 2020.
Duke’s My Health wellness portal embraces smart tools and a thoughtful design to inspire new, healthy changes and guide staff and faculty to the resources that can lead to better health.
As part of the formal kickoff for the Healthy Duke initiative, a host of events and activities have been planned during the “Week of Wellness” from Sept. 11-15, 2017. The week will showcase the many resources, benefits, and services available to members of the Duke community to address various aspects of their health.
